NETFLIX ADAPTING DARK HORSE’S POLAR

Dark Horse’s action noir graphic novel Polar: Came From the Cold is coming to Netflix next year, the streaming service announced.

Titled Polar, the film’s story follows Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser, the world’s top assassin who finally decides to retire. However, when his former employer orders a hit on him, Duncan is forced to battle younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to take him out.

Jonas Åkerlund (Lords of Chaos) is directing from a script by Jayson Rothwell (Silent Night). Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil franchise), Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil franchise, Death Race), and Hartley Gorenstein (Room) are producing.

The film stars Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Rogue One), Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Matt Lucas (Alice In Wonderland). Production is currently underway in Toronto, with Polar slated to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2019.

The Polar webcomics and graphic novels first made their debut in 2012, and are written and illustrated Victor Santos.

While you wait for Polar, be sure to read IGN’s review of the new Netflix film Mute, which we think “struggles to find its footing with a less than stellar hero.”
